- EXPOSITION
- Nick moves to West Egg, meeting Jay Gatsby, his neighbor. He also become reaccquainted with his cousin Daisy, and her husband Tom Buchanan.

- CONFLICT
- Jay Gatsby starts spending large sums of money on his parties, in order to get Daisy's attention away from Tom, who is Daisy's husband.
- Glida: 3
- RISING ACTION
- Gatsby asks Nick if he could invite Daisy over for a cup of tea. Gatsby also requests that Nick's house be cleaned up, in order to please Daisy.
- Glida: 4
- CLIMAX
- Gatsby finally admits to Tom the history between him and Daisy. Gatsby tells Tom that Daisy never loved him, and Daisy confirms that she is going to leave him for Gatsby.
- Glida: 5
- FALLING ACTION
- Gatsby and Daisy are fighting on the way back to Tom's. During the drive, Daisy runs over Myrtle Wilson, who is Tom's mistress, and then drives away.
- Glida: 6
- RESOLUTION
- After Myrtle was ran over, Tom convinces her husband (George) that the car that murdered her belonged to Gatsby. George believed Myrtle's death was Gatsby's fault, so he went to Gatsby's place to assassinate him.
