- Slavery is when an individual is forbidden from making their own decisions. Many countries, such as Sweden, Haiti, and Spain have abolished slavery. However, there are other things that many people do not realize are other forms of slavery. I chose this right because I believe that nobody should be subjected to mistreatment and I believe that everyone should be able to form/make their own opinions and choices.
- Forced marriages, especially of underage children, are a form of slavery. India has one of the highest rates of child marriages globally. India has about 24 million underage child brides, which makes up about half of all the child brides in the world. While child marriage is illegal under the law, it is permissible according to the Muslim and Hindu religions.
- To combat the growing issue of forced and child marriages, the law should be made more clear. These marriages should be considered illegal under civil law and under religious law. Additionally, prior to all marriages in areas where child brides are common, the bride and groom must meet with a professional who will decide if the marriage is not forced.
