  • The Commandments of Animalism...7. All Animals are Created Equal
  •
  • Old Major collects the animals on the Manor Farm and inspires them to prepare for a rebellion. When he dies, two pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, swear to carry on his work and lead the rest of the pigs in driving the farmer away. They set up a government that recognizes the rights of animals.
  •
  • Animals learn to read, write, and form opinions. The farm is running smoothly, and there is enough of food. A power struggle breaks out when the pigs ascend to positions of authority. Napoleon wins by chasing Snowball from the farm with his hounds.
  •
  • Napoleon, as supreme leader, makes reforms to the farm's government, replacing all-animal meetings with a committee of pigs that will administer the farm. Napoleon's superiority eventually makes him fearful that he may be overthrown.
  •
  • Napoleon puts the liability on Snowball, for the incidents that happened on the farm. Napoleon begins to purge the farm, accusing other animals of cooperating with his old enemy and assaulting them with dogs, using Snowball as a scapegoat.
  • The animals begin to believe that they would be better off with Mr. Jones, the farmer, than with the tyranny that has arisen. On the farm, things are getting worse. The commandments have been altered, and animals have been overworked to the point of collapse.
  • The animals are no longer equals. The pigs are starting to develop human characteristics, such as walking upright. When the animals look at pigs and humans, they discover they can't tell them apart any longer.
