Storyboard Text

  • Hello there, I am a HIstotechnologist. As a Histotechnologist, I had to complete 6 years of College, this including my Bachelors degree in an approved major and complete a HTL training program.
  • We need to send these samples off for testing.
  • My job is to inspect and examine thin slices of human, plant and animal tissue. I look for evidence of diseases. I surround the tissue with paraffin wax in a process called embedding, Cutting a tissue sample with a microtome or cryostat, mounting the sample on a slide, and staining or dying it to emphasize abnormalities.
  • Before the soon to be Histotechnologist can pursue her career, she much first complete 6 years of college, get her Bachelors degree in an approved major, and complete a HTL training program. The reason she has chosen the career path is the comfortable working hours, its pay ($60,470), and that she doesn't have to physically interact with the patients, but still be able to work in the medical field.
  • It seems as if this sample of human tissue has evidence of cancer. I will now send these results back to the hospital.
  • The doctors much gather tissue samples from the patient. After this, they send off the sample to the Histologic Technician, where they will prepare the sample and give it to the Histotechnologist.
  • If you don't think working in a clinical pathology lab or hospital if for you, then this isn't a good job choice for you.
  • Although I love my job, its not for everyone. My job includes high stress level's, little patient contact, less clinical skills, some don't like microscopy, busy work and demanding work. So if you want to go for this job, make sure its cut out for you!
  • The Pathologist and Histotechnologist not must complete an inspection of the thinly sliced tissue and look for evidence of diseases.
  • But my job is amazing! I work normal hours, a $60,470 paycheck and I dont have to work with patients one on one. This job is a perfect fit for me and it may just be for you too!
  • After close inspection, the Pathologist and the Histotechnologist have discovered that the patient has evidence of cancer in the tissue sample. They will now send the result to the doctors.
