- The different forms of matter!By: Melissa Albino
- Hello! My name is Melissa . I want to introduce you to my friend, Manny the Mountain. He's solid formed by water that froze (frozen water).
- Solid
- Manny the Mountain unfortunately melted due to radiation. The temperature of the environment was higher than 0-degrees Celsius. This caused the frozen water which is the mountain to melt turning Manny into a liquid. The particles in the mountain were tightly packed together. The particles started to separate due to the melting which started. The sun's radiation is what caused Manny the Mountain to become a liquid.
- Melting=Radiation
- My new friend Lily the Lake was formed the frozen water (the mountain) which was melted. Radiation from the sun and melting made Manny the Mountain turn into Lily the Lake .
- Liquid
- Terrible news again! Lily the Lake disappeared too!The temperature to rose caused by the sun through radiation. This caused the water (Lily the Lake) to evaporate into the atmosphere. Evaporation is a vaporization. It occurs at the liquid's surface. The particles of the liquid slowly starts to change to a gas. It is caused by the sun's radiation too.
- Evaporation = Radiation
- The particles expand when we add thermal energy. This makes them move away from each other. The energy they gain makes them move faster. This is what causes the change of phases of matter. From a solid, to a liquid, and then to gas. My new friend Vicky the Vapor is coming soon. She was formed by the sun's radiation too. I can't wait to meet her!
