- In November of 1917, Lenin led the Bolshevik in a Communist revolution in Russian against CZAR NICHOLAS who was the monarch of Russia. The communist were called the Reds and they fought against the White Russians. In the end, the Reds won and communism prevailed in Russian and the entire royal family was killed.
- Schenck v. the US
- After the Bolshevik revolution and the rise of Communism in Russia, many Americans were frightened that it would spread to America. Socialists, radicals, and labor unions were suspected of being communist. Immigrants were targeted the worst. Many were detained or deported with no evidence proving that they had anything to do with communism.
- Gitlow v. New York
- After the revolution in Russia, the main concern that the US had was Communism. The Attorney General of the US, Alexander Palmer, was worried that it would soon be in the homes of every American. Bombs went off in eight different US cities and one went off in Palmer's house. He then began raids on people who were thought to be radicals. Thousands of immigrants were arrested.

- A man named Charles Schenck disagreed with the war and wrote 15,000 notes to me who was drafter urging them not to show up. When the government found out about it they arrested Schenck. they convicted them of breaking the Espionage Act. and sent him to jail for 6 months.
- Don Not Join the War!!!
- Benjamin Gitlow & Alan Larkin were two know communists who were arrested for Criminal anarchy because they wanted to overthrow the government by force. They wrote about it in their newspaper, the Revolutionary Age. Gitlow believed that he shouldn't have been arrested because he was just invoking the First Amendment, Freedom of Speech.
