- This is Jane di Johnson. She likes to play football. Let's take a look at her body systems.
- These are Jane's body systems: Digestive, Respiratory and circulatory.
- This is Jane's digestive system. Jane has eaten foods with lots of carbohydrates to get quick energy for her match. The starch gets turned into glucose for the cells in her body to use. She also drank lots of water to stay hydrated.
- These are Jane's respiratory(right) and circulatory(left) systems. Her muscles need lots of oxygen. Her heart's right ventricle sends deoxygenated blood through her pulmonary valve and artery to her lungs to collect oxygen and deposit carbon-dioxide. Her lungs do this through diffusion of air from high concentrations to low concentrations.
- That process is respiration. Then, the blood comes back to her heart through the pulmonary vein and then into her left atrium. The now oxygenated blood goes through the bicuspid valve to the left ventricle, through the aortic valve into the aorta, the largest artery, which sends the blood to all the muscles in her body.
- Jane's digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems work really fast when she plays football because her muscles need more oxygen and energy to function properly, than when she is eating, reading, sleeping or just walking around.
