- Two Step Equation
- Today we are going to lean about solving problems with variables!
- But first, what are variables?Variables are letters that take the place of a number in a math problem
- For example, 2x, 6x, 8x.When there is a variable next to a number, you multiply it. So if x took the place of 2, 3x would be 3 multiplied by 2, or 6.
- 2x + 1 = 7
- Now that we know that, lets solve this problem.
- So first, we have to subtract our 1. If it were -1, we would add, but its not. We also subtract 1 from 7.2x + 1 =7      -1 -12x = 6Now we have to divide 6 by 2 and x by 2. 2x divided by 2 =x6 divided by 2 =3x=3
- 2x + 1 = 7
- 6x + 3 = 21Subtract the 36x + 3 = 21      -3   -36x = 186x divided by 6 = x18 divided by 6 = 3x= 3
- 5x + 8 = 23
- Now you can try this problem.
