  • Louisiana Purchase - Thomas Jefferson makes a deal with Napoleon
  • Pleasure doin' business with ya!
  • In 1803, Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon are making a deal that will give America all of Louisiana (+more) for $15,000,000
  • "Indian Removal" in the Southeast - Congress passes the Indian Removal Act
  • WOOHOO! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!
  • YEAH!!
  • I hereby pass the Indian Removal Act, for the purpose of solving the Indian Problem.
  • Congress passes the Indian Removal Act on May 28, 1830.
  • MANIFEST DESTINY, HERE WE COME!!
  • Texas - The Battle of San Jacinto
  • In 1836, Santa Anna is trapped by the Texans (lead by Sam Houston) while trying to execute a battle strategy, and they force him to sign a contract giving Texas independence.
  • Revenge for The Alamo!!!
  • You must sign it, Santa Anna!
  • This event is significant to the Indigenous Peoples who were already on the land America got in the Louisiana Purchase because it meant that they would be pushed out and killed while the settlers invaded their territory. It was also significant for the French because they had lots of debt, and the 15 million dollars they gained would help them pay it off.
  • War With Mexico - Border Disputes Turn Violent
  • NO!
  • This event was important to the American government because it would paint them as terrible people who approved of committing genocide, even though thousands of other people had already made a civilization there. It also impacted the Native Americans because when they were relocated (by force), they lost their land, home, belongings, their way of living, and even some of their family, so they now had a conflict between themselves and the American government (this also established that the Native Americans would not get equal treatment while living in America.)
  • Oregon Territory
  • The Battle of San Jacinto was impacted America because they were trying to annex Texas into it, so the national debate about slavery would grow and the power would shift because Texas was a pro-slavery state. Mexico was impacted by this event as well, because they still thought of Texas as their own, and their was more conflict and tension between them.
  • American Indian and "Westward Expansion" - The Battle of Little Bighorn
  • This event was significant to all of America because it led to James K. Polk having an excuse to wage war against Mexico, thus causing the Mexican-American war. That being said, it was also significant to Mexico because at the end of the war they have to officially recognize Texas as part of America, and that they had lost about a third of their land.
  • America and Mexico quarrel over where the border should be set.
  • The border should be here!
  • The signing of the Oregon Treaty impacted Great Britain because they had finally settled the dispute about the border between them and the U.S.A. This also was important to America because they had established a clear border, and it was a great success for manifest destiny, as America continued to expand and evolve.
  • President James K. Polk Gets Oregon (+ more) when he makes a deal with Great Britain to establish the border between Great Britain and America.
  • This event was significant to the Indigenous Peoples because after they defeated Custer and his army, they felt emboldened and empowered, and their land was safe for now. The American government, however, now knew that Custer – a war hero who was on his way to possibly become president – was killed by the “Indians”, so more battles break out and the government wants war.
