Storyboard Text

  • AR app with Concurrent Augmented Feedback
  • The AR exercise app that I was using is confusing. It provides both audio and visual feedback while performing the exercise and it is challenging as I will have to listen and look for visual cues at the same time.
  • Did you know there is a new AR exercise app that allows users to choose the different form of feedback that he or she wishes to receive (audio or visual or both or mute). The app provides concurrent augmented feedback, that is feedback while performing the exercise which allows me to correct the motor movement while performing the exercise itself.
  • Importance of Feedback while performing exercise using AR app
  • Can you choose, when and how to receive the feedback while performing the exercise?
  • Yes, For example, I prefer verbal feedback over visual. Hence, I turn off the audio feedback option for exerciseswhile using the AR app. Also, the app allows me to opt out of the feedback if I wish to.
  • Let me show you, how it work!
  • Feedback, frequency, and choice options
  • This is extremely useful. Does this app also provide tracking information on muscle control?
  • Yes, it does provide information regarding your motor movement and control which is useful to avoid any muscle injury by over performing a particular movement pattern.
  • I have been performing push-up from a longer period, So I opt out of the feedback option. However, as this AR apprelates to my apple watch. It collects several useful pieces of information that I can track in real time such as heart rate.
  • Many AR apps that are used for exercise purposes today do not necessarily use appropriate multimedia principles and instructional strategies while providing extrinsic feedback or Augmented Feedback. Extrinsic feedback adds to the natural sensory feedback which is also known as intrinsic feedback that is provided in several ways such as visual, auditory, proprioceptive, or tactile form. Feedback is a key component that informs the user how the task was performing by proving positive or negative response during the process of learning motor skill.
  • Knowledge for performance (Correct exercise movement to outcome in real time)
  • How?
  • A new user learning to perform a perfect push-up would require multiple feedback based on the number of errors performed. However, an experienced user improves his motor movements based on the frequent feedback received which is directly related to how the user is performing the motor movements after several practice sessions. Also, an important aspect to note is the user receives the specificmovementcomponentcharacteristics focusing on how the exercise is performed allowing the user to match or correct the exercise movement to outcome in real time.
  • Did you know, this app gives feedback in different ways based on whether you are beginner or expert which I found to be very cool.
  • Knowledge about the types of feedback can provide the foundation for developing instruction and practice strategies within the AR app that facilitates motor learning, enhance performance or skills (Chen, 2001). Instructional Designers and UX designers should design practice conditions in accordance with the cognitive processing capacity of the users (Bates et al, 2012).
  • Knowledge of Performance (Avoidoverdoingexercise)
  • What happens if I am overdoing a particular exercise, I might end up having a muscle injury?
  • This AR app provides visual concurrent feedback notifying youparticularly when you are over doing a particular movement pattern. For example, if you are pushing your head much lower to the ground while performing the push-up exercise it will notify you.
  • The feedback provided is meaningful and it helps to understand what movement I am missing and how to correct it. It is important for instructional designers to understand when and how to provide feedback and realize when to stop providingfeedback to avoid dependency
  • Tracking progress using AR app and apple watch
  • Cool, this looks like an interactive system. Does this App also track data? If yes, what kind of data is collected?
  • Yes, this app collects data such as motor control, motor strength, flexibility, and heartrate. The data is analyzed and future recommendations, suggestions and you can also schedule a one-on-one session with an expert to learn more about your feedback and receive constructive feedback. Isn't that Cool?
  • The Knowledge of performance feedback is the information about the outcome of a performance attempted. KP is concerned with the movement pattern that the individual is only vaguely aware of and is mostly used by instructors (Schmidt Lee, 2005). When providing this feedback, the early user needs qualitative feedback; once the skill is learned, then you can enhance it with quantitative feedback (Magill Anderson, 2012).
  • The AR app informs the user if they are overdoing a particular motor movement to avoid muscle injury and I have not seen any other app provide it so far.
  • The AR app is connected to my apple watch which allows it to collect data such as motor control, motor strength, flexibility and so on which is collected over a period and the data analysis followed by future recommendation and suggestions are provided as well.
  • Yes, I cannot wait to start using this app. Thank you for introducing it to me.
