This was because of the rich natural resources present in Africa such as diamonds and gold that can bring great wealth to whoever that controls it. The Indian people did try to fight back with examples like the Sepoy Mutiny but were unsuccessful because the religious tension between Hindus and Muslims caused a weak unity among the Indian people.

  • Countries like France and Britain wanted Egypt for its strategic location on the Red Sea. In order to try to prevent imperialism, the rulers of Egypt tried to modernize Egypt by actions such as modernizing its military, planting cash crops to enter the global market, and the creation of Suez Canal. Unfortunately, Egypt was unable to pay back their heavy loans on the creation of this canal, whichgave the British the ability to control the canal, which eventuallyallowedthem to occupy Egypt.
