- After Spain's defeat during the War of 1898 Spain gave up its rule over Cuba. Following the war, U.S. soldiers occupied Cuba until 1902, when the United States allowed a new Cuban government to take full control of the territory . The Reason the US decided to engage Spain was the same reason Spain controlled Cuba in the first place. The Ideology of Imperialism has a few main points, exploration, economic expansion, to increase political power, the spread of ideological beliefs, and the spreading of religious beliefs and practices to others. Many countries during this time partook as to grow their power and it was very popular among the major powers.
- Anti-imperialists argued that despite the new markets, expansion would cost too much, including the added expense of expanding the military to protect these foreign markets. They also argued that the new immigrants that would now be allowed into our country would take jobs and drive down wages.They also argued that taking the land from those who it was originally was morally wrong as they considered it theft of culture
