- Pssst... Why didn't they call Jonas?
- I have caused you anxiety, I apologize to my community.
- Jonas has been selected to be our next Receiver Of Memory.
- The audience at The Ceremony Of Twelve is confused at to why Jonas was not called to the stage and assigned a job. They are whispering to each other in puzzlement.
- THE CEREMONY OF TWELVE
- The Chief Elder apologizes to the community and Jonas. Jonas is still unsure and worried about his assignment.
- The Capacity To See Beyond.. what does that mean??What kind of pain...???
- The Chief Elder finally announces Jonas's assignment. He is selected to be the community's next Receiver Of Memory, a title with great honor. The crowd is shocked, because of the rarity, but beyond happy for Jonas.

- The crowd.. their faces changed
- JONAS
- The Chief Elder points out the current Receiver in the crowd. He is mysterious and looks separate from the group. He is the only other person in the community with the same assignment as Jonas.
- The Elder explains how Jonas was picked because of his intelligence, integrity, courage, wisdom and the capacity to see beyond. She also explains how this job will involve physical pain that he has not yet experienced in his life.
- Jonas looks out at the people in the audience. He sees that the crowd changes, just like the apple did when he was playing with Asher.
