Storyboard Text

  • Calvinism is the belief that God has given you a predestination, in other words that your fate has already been decided by God. In our belief, indulgences do not give you any benefit, and whether you go to Hell or Heaven is out of your control
  • That sounds interesting. However, wouldn’t that belief lead people to do anything they wish, not caring at all about any possible sins they commit since their fate is predetermined? What motivation would they have to continue leading a righteous life?
  • : I understand your concern, Martha. The idea of predestination is not supposed to promote negative thinking. Instead, the idea of predestination should inspire a sense of humility, and a sense of reliance on God’s grace. Calvinists are still responsible for living a righteous life.
  • I respect the view of Catholics and how they believe that fate is earned via good faith and hard work. In Calvinism, it is greatly emphasized that our good works are evidence of God’s good grace within us. Although we believe in predestination, we don’t discount the significance of living a righteous life and seeking repentance from God.
  • James: With all due respect, I find it difficult to believe the fact that no matter how much I pray and how much effort I put in, it may not change my fate at all.
  • Likewise, James Martha. I enjoyed our conversation together, and it should serve as a reminder to God’s open guidance.
  • I suppose our theological differences are great. I doubt we will ever find a complete agreement.
  • Agreed, however, despite our differences I enjoyed the opportunity to have this chat with you.
