Storyboard Text

  • Time for my first day at my new job as a teacher, what should I wear?
  • 3 (Shirts) x 2 (pants) x 3 (pairs of shoes) = 18 outfits
  • I have three different suits I can wear, 1 pair of blue jeans and 1 pair of white jeans and 3 pairs of shoes
  • To figure out how many ways I can pick my outfit, I can use the multiplicative principal
  • I think I'll wear a brown suit, some white jeans and my black shoes
  • If my workplace is 5 blocks north then 4 blocks east, I can use Pascals triangle to find out how many ways I can get there are.
  • I can express this as 9(total blocks)C5(blocks north) x 4(blocks left to go)C4(blocks north) which equals 126 possible ways
  • The theoretical probability of guessing which class is mine is a 1/4 chance, or 25%.
  • Hmm, which class is mine again?
  • MDM4U1
  • I want to get an idea of where you guys are at, so let's start off with a basic question, what are mutually and non-mutually exclusive events?
  • Hey everyone, I am your new teacher for grade 12 data management, nice to meet you all.
  • To solve these events, we use the additive principle, as opposed to using the multiplicative principle when dealing with independent or non-independent Events
  • An example of a mutually exclusive event is picking a jack or a king from a deck of cards
  • Non-mutually exclusive events are events that can occur simultaneously
  • An example of a non-mutually exclusive event is picking a jack or a spade from a deck of cards
  • Mutually exclusive events have different attributes and cannot occur simultaneously
