  • Germany surrendered. Why?Germany surrendered because both the United States and the Soviet Union worked together to corner Germany. Also with their leader Hitler dead, they didn't have anyone else to guide them. The death toll also was at its peak and they were quickly losing ground. While they succeeded in taking over new territory, they quickly lost it to the allied powers.
  • United States and The Soviet UnionWhen looking at the relationship between the US and Soviet Union you can tell that between them there is always ups and downs to the relationship. Not only were they on opposite sides at one point but they also ended up as allies toward to end of the war. Even though they were allies at the end there was still always a negative energy between the two powers. They did however work together to take down Nazi Germany . The soviet Union saw how Germany was expanding into their own territory and had to put a stop to it.
  • The Manhattan ProjectThe Manhattan Project was the code name for the American-led atomic weapon project. The project produced some of the first atomic weapons during World War 2. Although the project was led by America the UK and Canada supported it. With the help of the project it led to the end of WW2 but it later was on of the main reasons why the Cold War started. The project later ended in August of 1945.
  • Bombing of HiroshimaOn August 6th, 1945 an American B-29 bomber deployed the first atomic bomb to be released in Japan. The atomic bomb killed over 80,000 people with many more to be injured. Many more would be later be killed from radiation poisoning, debris, and smoke among many other things. Afraid of invading Japan, President Truman decided to deploy the bomb instead. With new research from the Manhattan Project they thought this was the best course of action.
  • Bombing of NagasakiThree days after the first bomb was dropped in Hiroshima another was dropped in Nagasaki. This next bomb resulted in Japan's unconditional surrender. By the end of 1945 over 140,000 were estimated just from the Nagasaki bombing itself. The bomb dropped on Nagasaki was nicknamed the Fat Man and leveled over 70 precent of buildings. The next decade both Nagasaki and Hiroshima would slowly rebuild but never be fully recovered due to the radiation poisoning and destruction.
  • Japan surrendered. Why?Due to the devastation of both the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and with the help of the Soviet Union Japan was forced to surrender. They said they didn't want to say they surrendered to the "miracle weapon" that America had dropped. After the war though America helped Japan rebuild as help with reparations as much as they could. They did this to help with negative stigma surrounding the atomic weapons and America itself from the war. The leaders of the Allied powers later met up with Japan's emperor to formally show that Japan surrendered.
