Storyboard Text

  • Hello, child. I understand that you don't know about how you grow. I am a skin cell in your body that needs to create children in order for you to grow taller.
  • First, my DNA splits. DNA is what differentiates me from other cells like blood cells. It defines what I am and how I function. This is called the interphase of mitosis. By splitting my DNA, I create the resources required to split in two.
  • Afterwards, I enter the prophase, where the DNA combines into chromosomes. Spindle fibers also form on opposite sides, which will help align the chromosomes later. Oh yeah, the blue nuclear membrane is also removed.
  • Then, the spindle fibers attach to the chromosomes' centromeres to align them vertically in the metaphase. The spindle fibers shorten, causing the chromosomes to split into chromatoids that are pulled by the spindle fibers. This is called the anaphase.
  • The small chromatoids are then grouped together, where the nuclear membrane forms around them again. This is called the telophase.
  • Finally, I split in two after cytokinesis, making two new skin cells. They are identical, with the same DNA and same purpose. After these two new cells grow up to be big, they undergo the same progress, restarting at interphase. Oh, looks like this is where we part, child.
