- Hello, who are you?
- I am indigenous to the nearby Mayan city. Would you like to see what it has to offer?
- How would you describe the city in its current state?
- We are currently. Thriving, many advancements were made as a result of this prosperity. This city was built around the Yucatán peninsula.
- What is this structure in front of me?
- This is a major Mayan pyramid like structure. This was built using only stone and no tools. Many other structures of tis type exists these are used for a variety of purposes including tombs for rulers, sacrifices and storage of valuable goods. Additionally we have built irrigation canals for water due the poor geography nearby in terms of water sources.
- What language exists in the Mayan empire?
- We have a language which is not only spoken but has characters unlike many other South American civilizations. This enables special documents to be written. This unified language enabled interconnectedness of cities in the Mayan empire.
- What are some major innovations in astronomy the Mayans have made?
- We have 2 calendar systems the first called the Haab calendar which is 365 days measured into 18 months of 20 days each. The second one being the Tzolkin calendar which is 260 days divided into 3 groups made up of 20 day months. The two systems are used in a system called a calendars round which lasts 52 years. Lastly there is a long colander which lasts hundreds of years. This enables agricultural guidance based on the time of year.
- What achievements in mathematics have the Mayans made?
- We have developed our very own number system for counting. We have also developed a number that has no value. This makes, calculations for astronomy and engineering much easier.
