- This country looks very econimcally promising. We should take it.
- Queen Lilioukalani didn't want to give up Hawaii and tried to get rid of American influence, but her cabinet didn''t listen to her.
- People in Hawaii didn't trade with any other countries. The US decided to make the country better by building plantations, warehouses, drydocks, banks, hotels, and stores. Some Hawaiians wanted to annex the country, and created the Annexation Club.
- Lilioukalani surrendered her throne, and the government drew up a treaty to annex Hawaii to give to the US government.
- The Committee of Safety took over the government building and created a provisional government to rule Hawaii, led by Sanford B. Dole.
- Grover Clevland was elected president and wanted to restore Liliuokalani to the throne, so Sanford B. Dole took back the treaty.

- The government defeated the supporters and arrested all of them, including the queen.
- After the provisional government declared Hawaii as the "Independent Republic of Hawaii," the queen's supporters planned an attack.
