Monkey Drug Trials

The monkey drug trials in 1969 was an experiment where monkeys were taught how to inject themselves with different kinds of drugs, such as morphine, alcohol, codeine, and cocaine. This was done to see the effects of drugs on humans and how addiction can control people. Once the monkeys knew how to inject themselves with the drugs, they were left alone with an ample supply of drugs. Some broke their arms trying to escape, broke their fingers in the process of hallucinating, and tore off their fur, and many even died. This of course was an unethical experiment where the animals were treated very poorly and resulted in many deaths. Even though this was super unethical, there was lots learned about drug use and abuse. One thing that was learned from the experiment is that animals should not be harmed or distressed in any way. Now, if researchers don't follow this code, they will not be allowed to continue their experiment. Scientific advancement is not an excuse to harm animals.
