- "That's gross, baby," Reese said. He always squirmed away when she came home smelling like formaldehyde" (Bennett 328). Reese didn't like the smell of formaldehyde, but on top of that he didn't want to come in contact with dead people via Jude. I'm sure he would've been self-conscious touching Jude before she took a shower because of what she does for a living.
- "It's from your father's funeral," Kennedy said. "Don't you remember?" Her mother said nothing, her face blank. She stared at the picture. "Where'd you get this?" she said" (Bennett 297 298). Stella is so used to lying to her daughter that she had no reaction at all when she showed her the picture. She's good at it and used it, except this time around Kennedy didn't believe her.
