- This scene is important to the play because it shows the theme, revenge takes over one's conscious. Prospero is a loving father and he used to be a good man(still is in many ways), however he is overcome with revenge. Even when his daughter begs him to stop the destruction he does not.
- This scene is important to the play because it shows the theme, power can corrupt. The prospect of being a Duke drove Antonio to harm his kin. The same thing nearly happens to Sebastian in the scene above when he is introduced to the idea of becoming king by Antonio.
- This scene is important to the play because it shows the theme, love can even be found in dark times. Despite having been shipwrecked to an island and put to work, Ferdinand falls for Miranda and they find happiness.
