Storyboard Text

  • Person vs. Nature
  • "...and there in the doorway was a massive black head, the nose up and smelling, the tiny eyes bright with hungry anticipation...'hush,' Lyddie commanded 'you'll make him madder'...No, she tried to breath evely and keep her eyes fixed on those of the beast." (pg. 2)
  • Person vs. Person
  • Thank You Ma'am, but your lying. Nobody can make that much in a week. Let's be real here.
  • Person vs. Self
  • "She was lying, Lyddie was sure of it. No girl could make that money in a week's time."(pg. 25) "She needed work that would pay and pay well. And there was only one place in New England where a girl could get a good cah wage for her work-and that was in Lowell, in the mills."(pg. 44)
  • You're going places kid, hard work pays off.
  • This quote shows Person v. Nature because Lyddie is opposing a part of nature, in this case it's the bear. This is a conflict because the bear did lots of damage to the house including breaking pots and knocking things down. Lyddie is trying to prevent the bear from doing more destruction and hurting her family.
  • The text shows the conflict because Mrs. Cutler fired Lyddie even considering her financial situation with having to pay her father's debt. This was her only source of income and losing this too would take a toll on Lyddie.
  • "'So you've decided to honor us with a visit! The mistress's face was red with heat or rage... 'You're dismissed!' The woman said, 'No,' Lyddie said quickly. 'I know I done wrong to go off when you wasn't her...'" (pg. 44 )
  • The quote shows Person v. Self because it portrays Lyddie debating on whether or not she should take the suggestion into consideration. She already has a set job that guarantees money but if she switches then she'll make more money.
