- For as long as humans have existed, we have used images and text to tell stories!
- Graphic novels have not always been taken seriously, but works like New Kid have helped push the genre to new heights.
- Today, we have graphic novels! These texts use words and images to tell stories for children, teens, and adults.
- New Kid follows Jordan, a young Black boy who is one of only a few students of color at his new, private school.
- New Kid also shows the joy and beauty in Jordan's experience, his close friendships and family through the visual medium.
- In New Kid, the author is able to show colorism and micro-agressions in a way plain text would be unable to.
