- In the US we believe that communism is a threat
- Indeed we advocate for democracy over communism
- We practice the policy of containment to prevent communism spreading any further
- Here in the USSR we believe that America is trying to colonize the world with their rhetoric
- We also believe communism is the superior form of government over capitalism
- After WWII the US and USSR sought to make more nuclear weapons to control each others ambitions
- Spies were important because they helped create the paranoia surrounding the Cold War on both sides
- Sen. McCarthy was important because he led the whole idea of the Red Scare. This created lots of paranoia in the US
- Massive Retaliation is using force (nukes in particular) as a deterrent against attack.
- The Cold War impacted American life because Americans were drawn into believing anti-communist propaganda
- The Cold War affected life in Virginia because people now had to worry about the potential of a nuclear attack by the USSR. Not only in Virginia but elsewhere too.
