Nisha woke up and followed the smell of Kazi’s cooking. He notices her watching and hands her a piece of dough to knead. She asks him if he would have to leave them soon if everyone went in different directions. “He turned and saw me and motioned me over. I came and he handed me a lump of soft dough” Nisha July 23 1947 page 29
Kazi bends down and holds Nisha’s faces in his hands and tells her that she is like a daughter to him and would always be with him in his heart “he told me that I was like a daughter to him and that I’d always be with him in his heart”. Nisha July 23 1947 page 30
Kazi tells Nisha not to knead the dough too hard or it will fry hard as a rock. Nisha stays silent she reflects on the fact that the question she just asked took a lot of energy and how she wished Kazi had answered it because she doesn’t know when she will able to ask it again.”I wished he had answered it. I don’t know when I’ll be able to ask it again.” Nisha July 23 1947 page 30
