- Romeo Montague
- Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs. Being purged, a fire sparkling in his lover's eyes; being vex'd a sea nourish'd with lovers' tears.
- He is related to Lord and Lady Montague, Benvolio, and several other of the Montagues. He is friends mostly with Juliet and Friar Lawrence.
- Romeo is the son of Lord and Lady Montague, one of the main protagonists who is in love with Juliet.
- He is disoriented, confident, panicked, and then eventually hopeless.
- Juliet Capulet
- Juliet is related to Lord and Lady Capulet, Tybalt, and Rosaline Capulet. She is friends with Friar Laurence, Romeo and the Nurse.
- She is hopeful, desperate, upset, and bothered.
- Come, gentle night, come, loving blackbrowed night. Give me my Romeo, and when I shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars.
- Juliet is also a main protagonist along with Romeo, the only child of Lord and Lady Capulet.
- Tybalt Capulet
- Tybalt is the cousin of Juliet, and the nephew of Lord and Lady Capulet. He doesn't have many friends, though he sticks by his family.
- Tybalt is seen as one of the main antagonists of the story, eventually being slain by Romeo.
- He is agitated, irate, sneaky and aggressive.
- I will withdraw, but this intrusion shall now seeming sweet convert to bitter gall.
- Friar Lawrence
- Friar Laurence's family is unknown, but he becomes friends with Romeo and Juliet throughout the story.
- He is unsure, understanding, helpful, and regretful.
- These violent delights have violent ends.
- Benvolio Montague
- Benvolio is a cosuin and friend to Romeo, and is the nephew of Lord and Lady Montague.
- He is confident, assuring, sure, and capable.
- Alas, that love, so gentle in his view, should be so tyrannous and rough in proof!
- The Nurse
- Come Lammas Eve at night shall she be fourteen. Susan and she, God rest all Christian souls were of an age.
- The Nurse has no known relatives, but is close with the Capulets.
- She is capable, confident, understanding, and helpful.
- Friar Laurence is the priest that helps Romeo and Juliet, and is the one who marries them.
- Benvolio is a side character/protagonist of the story, Romeo's best friend and cousin.
- The Nurorse is seen as a side protagonist, helping Romeo and Juliet in their risky relationship.
