Storyboard Text

  • Pearl's Husband was also fighting with the Continental Army and she didn't want to stay at home waiting for news. She decided to follow her husband into battle and act as a nurse for the army. She got her first patient, Marquis de La Fayette, in the battle of Brandywine. He was shot in his leg and Pearl was able to get it out and nurse him back to health.
  • Pearl on the Battlefield
  • Pearl's husband ended up dying in action, so she went back home. She still wasn't done and decided to educate the public on Patriotic beliefs. At the church in her town, Pearl would give speeches to the community members educating them about Patriotic beliefs and why they deserved freedom from the King. She also would give updates on battles going on, as she would receive news from other nurses still helping the army.
  • Pearl Educating the Public
  • Peal soon opened her own printing press called Pearl's Papers Inc. She would write and publish articles about the battles, Patriotic beliefs, and even women's roles during this time. This was very rare for a woman to be running their own business during the 1700's. Pearl even hired other women who had lost their husbands in battle and needed to provide for their families. She would go on to have a big role in the Revolution for a woman, as she would later print copies of The Declaration of Independence.
