Storyboard Text

  • I wake up. My neurons, or nerve cells, are already hard at work.
  • Clean room
  • Neurons from my stomach transmit to my brain that I am hungry, so I make some breakfast. In order to do that, my brain has to transmit messages to my hands.
  • Neurons do so much for us! Everything, really. However, if they are damaged it can be very serious, even fatal. When I fell down the stairs and got a concussion, neurons were damaged.
  • I had to go to the hospital in order to recover. Since my neurons had been damaged, I had to limit mental and physical activity while they heal.
  • Once I have recovered, my neurotransmitters can work better again. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is associated with learning, movement, attention, and happiness. Just like when I had fun times on my Grandma's farm as a little girl!
  • Neurotransmitters often affect our moods, making us sad, happy, and scared. Inbalance of the chemicals (especially serotonin) can lead to depression. Serotonin is what makes me feel sad when I visit Grandpa Bob's grave.
  • Grandpa Bob
