- Ponyboy Comes Home Late
- Me and Johnny were talking and I fell asleep in the lot!
- Where were you, Ponyboy!?
- Darry Slaps Ponyboy
- *slaps Ponyboy*
- Ponyboy Runs Away and Gets Johnny
- Ponyboy, I didn't mean to!
- Ponyboy comes homes late because he was talking to Johnny in the lot while looking at the stars, and he fell asleep. He comes home to Darry yelling at him for being out late.
- "'Darry..' Sodapop began, but Darry turned on him. 'You keep your trap shut! I'm sick and tired of hearin' you stick up for him.' He should never yell at Soda. Nobody should ever holler at my brother. I exploded. 'You don't yell at him!' I shouted. Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door.
- Nobody had ever hit anyone else in Ponyboy's family. He ran away because he knew how Darry felt about him. After this, he goes to get Johnny and they run away.
