  • 4th President of the United States
  •
  • Battle of Tippecanoe
  • They just signed away 3 million acres of land to General Harrison and the government. We must convince accommodationists to fight this.
  • The War of 1812
  • I fought in 1813 where we won Lake Erie and Detroit. Our troop also won the Battle of the Thames.
  • I was at the Battle of Bladensburg where the British burned the White House.
  • I was there when we defeated the British in the battle at Fort McHenry and the Battle of Lake Champlain.
  • I fought in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 where there were over 2000 British casualties.
  • James Madison served two terms from 1809-1817. Madison, a Democratic-Republican, won against his Federalist opponent, Charles Pickney. James Madison had two vice presidents: George Clinton and Elbridge Gerry.
  • The Hartford Convention
  • What will this mean for the party, as people aren't supporting them anymore?
  • I, along with many other Democratic-Republicans, view this convention as an act of treason.
  • Relation with Native Americans worsened as settlers moved west and as British soldiers provided supplied Natives with weapons. The Shawnee brothers founded Prophetstown in 1808 and started a confederation of traditionalists to build an alliance against the U.S. government. In November 1811, they led an attack on General Harrison, a battle during which Prophetstown was destroyed.
  • 5th President of the United States
  • The Congressional election of 1818 took place and Democratic-Republicans hold 85% of the seats. I hope I can unify this country and end political parties.
  • "America's Second War for Independence" was approved by Congress on June 18, 1812 for causes such as British impressment of American ship crews as well as their refusal to abandon forts near the Great Lakes. This war was not supported by many Federalists. It ended on December 24 with the Treaty of Ghent. Pre-war boundaries were re-established and America became an independent, industrialized country.
  • The American System
  • Sectionalism is growing. Northerners like tariffs because it is good for their businesses, but Southerners don't because it makes things expensive. The North and South are also split on slavery. The West wants to sell land at low prices so that people can afford it, but the North doesn't want that because people might leave the cities. Some people also don't think that the government has the power to establish public works like the Cumberland Road or the Erie Canal.
  • A group of Federalists met in Connecticut before the treaty was signed, threatening to make New England secede because of the War of 1812 and the Embargo Act. They wrote amendments to the Constitution to prevent a similar situation from happening again. The treaty was signed before they introduced their proposal and the Federalist party soon dissolved.
  • Most Federalists are quite embarrassed by this fiasco, I must say.
  • James Monroe served two terms from 1817-1825. He was a Democratic-Republican and ran against Rufus King, the last Federalist candidate, during the election of 1816. His vice president was Daniel Tompkins. His time in office is referred to as the Era of Good Feelings because the mood in the country was positive after the war and there wasn't much political fighting.
  • Monroe continued policies implemented by Madison which united the country's economic systems so that it could support itself. In this system, the North would focus on manufacturing and trade, the South would focus on agriculture and slavery, and West would grow crops as well as claim new lands. This caused sectionalism to grow throughout the country. This system also focused on establishing one currency and creating public works, as well as encouraging tariffs on imports.
