- Hi, my name is Chelsea. I go to Faulkner high school and this is my popular friend Amy.
- OMG! Thanks!!!!
- Psst... Here have gum!
- If I take it my hunger will be fulfilled and I'll be popular.
- I could also receive detention which me and my parents would hate....
- But I could also stick the gum under the chair after chewing it..
- TAKE IT!
- Jesus would not take the chewing gum to gain popularity or to fulfill one's hunger but by following the 10 commandments. He would kindly refuse to the person giving him chewing gum. To obtain a food source he would drink water to die out his hunger and if he doesn't have water he would exit class and go to the drink taps to refill his bottle. Therefore, you aren't breaking the rules (no chewing gum in class) and will not be vandalizing school property. For popularity status, Jesus believes the desire to be popular is more than merely wanting others to think well of our character—we should desire to have a good testimony in the world (Philippians 2:15).
- What would Jesus do?
- Think of how you would be 'treated others as you wanted to be treated...'
- If I were Amy and was being given chewing gum I would want to be immune from detention and parent's scolding. So If I were Amy I would not offer any chewing gum and If I were Chelsea I would politely refuse the offer.
- Human dignity is the state of showing humanity, It's the act of respect, kindness even when you won't gain anything, or to someone you don't like. All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights even from their class, race, or etc.. In the dilemma, Amy is neglecting human dignity as because she is popular and is Chelsea's 'best friend' she deems she can make Chelsea appropriate, 'good' choices. Hence, she is not allowing Chelsea to think for herself and make the right decision following her conscience.
