Storyboard Text

  • Why do the poor complain?
  • Twas bitter keen indeed, but I have no fire at home
  • My father is sick at home.
  • The poem begins with a rich man apporaching our narrator as asking, "And wherefore do the Poor complain?". The Rich man was confused on why the poor people complained about being poor. With no verbal answer, our narrator asks him to come on a walk.
  • My husband serves as a soldier far away so I beg.
  • On this walk of revelation, the first person that they encountered is a bald-headed man. The man explains to them that he had no fire at home so he came to the streets to beg.
  • I'm poor.
  • The second encounter of their trip was with a young bare-footed child. She explained to them that her father was sick at home. This meant that there wasn't enough being provided for her at home so she came out to the streets to beg for bread.
  • This is why the poor complain
  • The third encounter that they had was with a woman resting on a stone. She had two young children; one on her back and one in her arms. After calming her crying child down, she proceeded to tell them that her husband was stationed far away for war so she beggs.
  • The last encounter that they had was with a girl who had loose clothes and sunken eyes. She turned to using her body to get money. After narrator asks her if she has any guilt, she responds that she doesn't because she's poor and needs the money to survive.
  • The walk of revelation has finally come to an end. The rich man had no more words. Through all of their encounters, he was now able to realize why the poor complain.
