Storyboard Text

  • Agriculture in Rural Areas
  • Cottage Industry in Rural Areas
  • Urbanization
  • People before urbanization would mainly survive by doing agricultural work, and farming crops to eat and sell. This also happened to be their living situation, being in small villages with lots of farm land.
  • Factory Work in Urban Areas
  • People before urbanization would craft textiles and do handiwork to sell and keep around the house. This was somewhat similar to the future factory work they were going to be doing.
  • Changes in Transport
  • Rural areas slowly became cities. People were forced to move into these new urban areas to make more money since the rich were buying up all of the farmland. Living conditions were often bad, tight, and cramped.
  • How People Made a Living
  • Factory work was terrible. Low pay and dangerous long hours. Child labor was used a lot since they were small and could fit in big machines easily.
  • The train was a new method of transport. Moving from place to place was usually slow, and the train allowed faster transport for cheap. Lots of people were now using trains to get around. They were also used for faster transport of goods.
  • After harsh, depressing work in the factory to make very low wages, people would often try to enjoy activities outside of the factory and their homes. People went to pubs, theaters, museums, and other places to try and cheer up.
