Storyboard Text

  • Hamlet: Haste me to know ’t, that I, with wings as swiftAs meditation or the thoughts of love,May sweep to my revenge.
  • Hamlet: O my prophetic soul! My uncle?
  • Ghost: Now, Hamlet, hear.'Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard,A serpent stung me. So the whole ear of DenmarkIs by a forgèd process of my deathRankly abused. But know, thou noble youth,The serpent that did sting thy father’s lifeNow wears his crown.
  • Hamlet: To be, or not to be? That is the question—Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to sufferThe slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,60Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,And, by opposing, end them? To die, to sleep—No more—and by a sleep to say we endThe heartache and the thousand natural shocks
  • Hamlet:Now might I do it pat. Now he is a-praying.And now I’ll do ’t. And so he goes to heaven. And so am I revenged.—That would be scanned.A villain kills my father, and, for that,I, his sole son, do this same villain sendTo heaven...He took my father grossly, full of bread,With all his crimes broad blown, as flush as May.
  • Claudius: Oh, my offence is rank. It smells to heaven. It hath the primal eldest curse upon ’t,A brother’s murder. Pray can I not.Though inclination be as sharp as will,My stronger guilt defeats my strong intent,...Try what repentance can. What can it not?Yet what can it when one can not repent?O wretched state! O bosom black as death!O limèd soul that, struggling to be free,70Art more engaged! Help, angels. Make assay.Bow, stubborn knees, and, heart with strings of steel,Be soft as sinews of the newborn babe. All may be well. (kneels)
  • Gertrude:O me, what hast thou done?Oh, what a rash and bloody deed is this!...As kill a king?
  • Hamlet: Nay, I know not. Is it the king?A bloody deed? ...Almost as bad, good mother,As kill a king and marry with his brother.
  • Ophelia: They carried him uncovered in the coffin,  Hey non nonny, nonny, hey nonny. And tears poured down into his grave.Good-bye, honey...And won’t he come again? And won’t he come again?  No, no, he’s dead.  Go to your deathbed. He’ll never come again. His beard was white as snow, His hair was all white too.  He’s gone, he’s gone,  And we moan as we’re cast away. God have mercy on his soul.
  • Laertes:Oh, heat, dry up my brains! Salty tears, burn my eyes! By heaven, I’ll get revenge for your madness! Oh, you springtime rose, dear maiden, kind sister, sweet Ophelia! Is it possible that a young woman’s mind could fade away as easily as an old man’s life?
  • Laertes:I am satisfied in nature,Whose motive in this case should stir me mostTo my revenge. But in my terms of honorI stand aloof, and will no reconcilementTill by some elder masters, of known honor,235I have a voice and precedent of peaceTo keep my name ungored. But till that timeI do receive your offered love like loveAnd will not wrong it.
  • Hamlet:Give me your pardon, sir. I’ve done you wrong. But pardon ’t, as you are a gentleman. This presence knows,And you must needs have heard, how I am punishedWith sore distraction. What I have done,That might your nature, honor, and exceptionRoughly awake, I here proclaim was madness.
