- At the Science Lab the students were asked by their teacher question on the electromagnets unit they had just finished
- Can some one tell me what an electromagnet is?
- Mrs.Powers, A electromagnet is a magnet made by using an electric current around an iron core
- Good!Now can anyone tell me how they work?
- You need a battery and a coil wire. You connect the wire to the battery and the electric current flows through the wire and then it can become a magnet
- Who can tell me a important fact of an electromagnet
- They increase the strength: by increasing the voltage, coils, and tightening the wire
- They will always need an electric current and they have a direct current which is electricity that travel in one direction thru a closed circuit and is produced by a battery
- My favorite is Oersted, because he showed how a current carrying wires behave like a magnet and without him the other scientist would not be able to formulate the Electromagnetic Wave Theory
