Overthrow Of Charles I
Thought he'd never die
No one is gonna rule as long as Queen Elizabeth II!!
Charles I the son of James I. He, like his father, believed in the divine right of kings. He never wanted to lose any of his power which is why once he found out that the Petition of Right was to limit his powers he quickly declined. He also tried to force ritual upon the church of England and this lead to lots of complaints and later the Civil War.
Restoration Of The Stuart Monarchy
Commonwealth blah blah
The complaints grew larger and larger which led to the Civil War. The Civil War was between the supporters of king Charles I (Cavallers or the Royalists) and the parliamentary forces (Roundheads). Due to the military genius Oliver Cromwell the Roundheads were victorious.
Glorious Revolution
Ugh men.
This is how we will invade England blah blah
Oliver Cromwell was a military genius, he was a key person that organized the New Model Army. He led the Roundheads to victory and once they won king Charles I was executed causing the overthrow of him.
English Bill Of Rights
You guys have the same laws as everyone else!
This was known as the Restoration Period. The parliamentary was still mostly in power and was an important role in the government. The work of the English Revolution was undone and Charles II kept pushing his own ideas.
A group of Nobles had invited the Dutch leader, William to invade England. William was married to the niece of king Charles II and daughter of king of England James II. With Mary's permission they planned to invade England. James fled without a fight. This was the Glorious Revolution.
The English Bill Of Rights created a system of government based on the Rule Of Law. It ensures that everyone is held down by the same laws. Even kings and queens. It was the foundation for a limited, and, or a constitutional monarchy.
