- Wow, Canada sounds amazing!!
- 1. Save up for the very expensive boat ride
- 2. Once I arrive in Canada, start my job as a pipe fitter/welder.
- 3. Live with Uncle Tony until I make enough money to live on my own
- Plan to move top Canada
- It was the beginning of the year 1963 and Italy had been recruiting for the army. My grandfather was turning 18 that year, forcing him to join the army.
- My grandfather had no desire to join the army and was seeking a better life. He and his uncle who had recently moved to Canada had been sending letters back and for talking about what was going on. His uncle had told him how great Canada is and how many opportunities there were.
- This is one long boat ride
- So, my grandfather decided Canada was the place to be. Over many months, my grandfather made a plan and saved up for the long and expensive move to Canada
- Once my grandfather had his paperwork, he headed to the port to take the very long and expensive boat ride to Canada. He had left just in time before being recruited.
- The boat ride was long, 2 weeks in length. This was one big obstacle in the way of my grandfather getting to Canada.
- Once he arrived, he couldn't believe how amazing Canada was and how many opportunities it gave him. There he began his new life and worked as a welder/pipe fitter.
