Oliver Twist was born in a workhouse - a cold place for the homeless. His mother Agnes was homeless, and she dies after giving birth to Oliver. The workhouse owner was a fat greedy man named Mr Bumble

LIFE IN THE ORPHANAGE
Oliver is raised in an orphanage. At 7 years of age, he is used to sleeping in a dormitory with 50 other boys. All the boys remain hungry and weak as Mr Bumble gives them less food. He saves orphanage money for himself.

MORE KIDS, LESS FOOD
Once all the boys decide to ask Mr Bumble for more food, and Oliver is chosen to do the tricky job. When Oliver asks "Pease sir, I want some more food", Mr Bumble becomes furious and hit him.

PUNISHED
Oliver is punished and put in a dark, cold, cellar which was full of cobwebs and rats. There is no bed and he sleeps on the floor.

SOLD AWAY TO UNDERTAKER
Mr Bumble wants to teach a lesson to other boys. He decides to sell Oliver Twist. Though Oliver resists, he is sold to Mr Sowerberry, the undertaker.

RUNS AWAY TO LONDON
Under Mr Sowerberry, Oliver lives in a dark room full of coffins. He is treated badly and given food in a dog's bowl. One day Oliver is abused, so he runs away and reaches London.
