Storyboard Text

  • Natural Selection with Peacock Feathers by Emma Streeter
  • Before male peacocks had really bright and colourful feathers, they all had an equal chance of competition for a mate.
  • Then a gene mutation caused a male peacock to develop colourful feathers which made him very attractive to the females.
  • The males can also fold up their feathers which gives them an ability to hide while the females can camoflage into the environment, protecting their eggs and offspring from predators like tigers, leopards, and mongoose. This gives them an advantage over other peacocks.
  • Soon, there were lots of bright-coloured males for the females to mate with and the gene was passed down the generations until it became the dominant one.
  • The End
