- The Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania and the German Democratic Republic signed the Warsaw Pact on May 14 1945. It was a treaty of friendship, cooperation and military alliance between the socialist states of the Eastern Bloc.
