Storyboard Text

  • Phospholipid
  • Cell Membrane: The semi-permeable membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell (Google Dictionary)
  • ATP
  • Cholesterol
  • Pump Protein
  • Who's ready to go to the cell membrane!
  • I'm ready!
  • Channel Protein
  • Osmosis: Only water can travel through channel proteinHypertonic: High conc. of solute. Plant and animal cells wiltHypotonic: High conc. of solvent. Plant lives, animals may burstIsotonic: Equal conc. Plant wilts and animal lives
  • Please read the board for some info before the field trip
  • OMG it's so cool!!
  • Welcome to the cell membrane!
  • Wooow!
  • We're now inside of one of the channel proteins. Those bubble-like things you see floating around are molecules. The channel protein allows molecules to enter into the cell. This is an example of facilitated diffusion.
  • These are phospholipids. They participate in passive transport. In endocytosis, the phospholipids form a vesicle to allow molecules to enter, and vice-versa with exocytosis.
  • This is a diagram of concentration gradient. To the left, you can see a high conc. and to the right is a low conc. The cell membrane uses different types of diffusion to allow molecules in. A pump protein is an example of active transport because it uses ATP. It is also selectively permeable, meaning it gets to choose which molecules to let in.
