A Mexican official went to check up on Texas because the Mexican government was uneasy about Americans and they way they are living in Texas. The Mexican Official found out that the Americans were living just like how they did in North America! They weren't talking in Spanish and didn't seem like they fully converted to Catholicism.

This law was made for Americans who want to move to Texas, more difficult for them because Mexico wants to control Texas before Texas turns on them.

Stephen F. Austin was sent to jail after being accused of treason by the Mexican government
Battle of San Jacinto - April 31, 1836
The Mexican government tried to take back the cannon that they gave to the Texians to protect themselves from the native Americans because the Mexican government though that the Texians were going to use that cannon to break apart from the Mexican government. Later in the battle, the Americans shot the cannon to the Mexican soldiers and they won
This is when Colonel Travis drew a line and asked the people that are willing to stay and fight to cross over that line and join him in the battle
