Storyboard Text

  • Chris Herren grew up in Fall River Mass. It was a tough place to grow up and the town had a drinking problem, Chris began drinking at just 14.
  • Chris was a star basketball player in High School. He led Durfee high in all time points with over 2,000 and was named to the 1994 all-american McDonalds team.
  • Chris attended Boston College where things unfortunately started to take a turn for the worse as he began experimenting with drugs such as cocaine. He continued to play Basketball but transfered to Fresno State after failing drug tests, he was named to the All-WAC first team and was seen as a first round draft pick.
  • Chris has been sober enver since getting out of rehab in 2008 and is now a motivational speaker who uses his story as a way to warn people against the danger of drugs and how they can take over your life.
  • Chris was taken by the Denver Nuggets with the 33rd pick of the 1999 NBA draft. He played just one season there before being traded to the Boston Celtics where he had easy acess to drugs since he was close to his hometown connections and developed a severe oxycontin addiction. His second season in the NBA was his last due to drug abuse. He then played professional ball overseas in several different countries.
  • His drug problems continued when overseas and he would look for heroin and cocaine dealers.

  • In 2008, after a nearly fatal car crash caused by Chris blacking out at the wheel after shooting heroin, he was just about to give up and end his life when someone found him and brought him to rehab. His wife told him to stay in rehab or to never come back. After being sober for several months he returned to his family ready to turn his life around.
