- Montressor is tired of Fortunato hurting his pride, so he is vowing for revenge.
- Exposition
- Fortunato has hurt me 1000 times, It's now time for me to get my revenge.
- Rising Action
- Montressor talks to Fortunato as a friend. What Fortunato doesn't know is that Montressor is leading him to his death.
- Thank you, Montressor!
- Amontillado? In the middle of Carnival? That's not possible. I must try some.
- I've just recieved a pipe of what passes as Amontillado, but I have my doubts.
- Good Morning! You're looking well today!
- Rising Action
- Montressor pretends to attempt to dissuade Fortunato from following him to the vaults with the wine. He knows that Fortunato's pride will cause him to follow despite Montressor's warnings against following him.
- Luchesi won't know anything, bring me to the amontillado!
- Nonsense! Bring me to the amontillado!
- I 'm already on my way to Luchesi, he can tell me. Besides, there's nitre on the walls which is unsafe for you with your terrible cold.
- Are you sure you want to follow me here? I'm sure you have other things to do!
