  • After the Home Owner Association Stella finally speaks with the other members about new neighbors. "You must stop them, Percy," she said. If you don't, there'll be more and then what? • After the girls played outside, Loretta has dragged the girls over to Stella's house to tell her the harsh remark Kennedy made toward her daughter. "Stella told her daughter the same thing she'd heard that mother say. Because we don't play with niggers"( Bennett 186). This represents how the impact of Stella saying this is very strong because now it changes her daughter's views.
  • What effect do they have on others
  • Glida: 3
  • As Stella helps Kennedy move into her new apartment, Kennedy tries asking more about Stella's life. " She'd imagined, more than once, telling her daughter the truth, about Mallard, and Desiree, and New Orleans" (Bennett 292). This represents how Stella wants to tell her daughter the truth but she has lived a lie for so long it would be hard to tell her. This battle within herself is what Stella faces almost day to day.
