Storyboard Text

  • World War II was happening for two years, but the U.S. hadn’t joined in yet. So, the Japanese thought if they took out warships, then the U.S. would be crippled and not fight back. So, they flew hundreds of Japanese fighter planes and bombers to Pearl Harbor and attacked. The bombers dropped bombs and torpedoes on the warships, and the fighter planes used to attack the U.S. fighter planes on the ground so they couldn’t take off and fight back. Although the Japanese destroyed most of the fighter planes and aircraft, all the ships but three were able to be recovered and used in World War II, which they joined shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
  • Pearl Harbor Invasion
  • To attack the island of Midway, the Japanese launched fighter planes and bombers from four aircraft carriers. At the same time, three U.S. aircraft carriers were closing in on the Japanese. The U.S. also launched an attack while the Japanese focused on attacking Midway, the first wave being torpedo bombers. The Japanese, however, were able to defend themselves from the torpedoes. After this, Yorktown engaged in battle with Hiryu, ending with both Yorktown and Hiryu sunken.
