- A Discovery Under the Sea

- Hi everyone! Today, I am going to tell you a little story about my new discovery!
- A discover that took place under the sea with the help of me
- Two Days Earlier...
- As you may know, Flounder and I were exploring a sunken ship one day when we found many treasures. This included paintings, thingamabobs, and mugs. We were suddenly attacked by a shark but luckily escaped. I decided to bring home some of my new discoveries.
- I was particularly interested in the mug that had a lid on it. There was some strange brown liquid inside of it. I was about to try it when Sebastian came.
- I'm just going to have a little taste
- Ariel, don't!!! There's coffee in there! Coffee is an acid and has a very sour taste. Fish cannot drink acids! And, you must come down from there. You know what your father will do if you are spotted above the surface!
- Ariel, I promise you, acids are real! They are substances that have a pH that is less than 7. There are also bases. Bases are bitter, slippery, and have a pH that is greater than 7. But, what you are holding is an acid. I can even prove it to you, just please come down!
- Ugh, Sebastian!! You never let me have any fun. I don't believe any of that acid stuff. It is probably not even a thing! You're just trying to make me come back home!
- This is a piece of blue litmus paper. It is an indicator. I dipped the bottom of it in your coffee. Because it turned red, that means whatever is in your mug is an acid. It would have stayed blue if the coffee was a neutral or basic solution. Now, will you please come down??
- Okay, okay, I guess...
