- Have you seen the newest Spider-Man movie? There's just about every type of person represented in some form of Spider-Person!
- I have! Representation is important in media, but representation often isn't enough, the representation must be effective.
- What do you mean by that?
- Not all representation is effective. For example, black LGBTQ+ characters have been present in mainstream comics for a while now, but they're often watered down or relegated to side characters (Morris).
- Effective representation is important because representation is how prejudices are delegitimized (Morris).
- Effective representation for African Americans in Comics dates back to the 1940s in the character of Lion Man (Davis 276).
