- Women must always be on the look out and defensive against predatory men who will leave them as social pariahs and outcasts
- Marriage and motherhood are the ultimate prizes to be sought by woman, much more important than desire
- The goblin men are essentially raping and harassing women, as has been the female experience for millenia
- And all the fruit imagery?? That could easily be biblical imagery!
